Vietnam to test food imported from coronavirus affected countries

Bộ Y tế đã yêu cầu các cơ quan liên quan kiểm tra thực phẩm nhập khẩu từ các quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ có thông báo bùng phát virus corona nhằm ngăn chặn sự lây lan tiếp theo của dịch bệnh Covid-19 vào Việt Nam.
The Ministry of Health has ordered relevant agencies to test food imported from countries and territories that have reported coronavirus outbreaks in order to prevent a further spread of the Covid-19 into Vietnam.
Bộ yêu cầu Bộ Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn, Bộ Công Thương cũng như Tổng cục Hải quan, Bộ Tài chính kiểm soát chặt chẽ thực phẩm, đặc biệt là thực phẩm đông lạnh nhập khẩu từ các nước bị ảnh hưởng bởi cơn đại dịch. Họ cũng đã được yêu cầu lấy mẫu từ bao bì để xét nghiệm và báo cáo kết quả cho Bộ Y tế.
The Ministry asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as the General Department of Vietnam Customs under the Ministry of Finance to closely control food, especially frozen food, imported from the pandemic affected countries. They have also been urged to take samples from the packaging for testing and reporting the results to the Ministry of Health.
Ngày 25/11, ông Nguyễn Thanh Phong, Cục trưởng Cục Quản lý Thực phẩm, Bộ Y tế cho biết, do thực phẩm nhập khẩu có nguy cơ lây lan Covid-19 cao nên Bộ đã yêu cầu các cơ quan liên quan tiến hành kiểm tra và báo cáo những khó khăn trong quá trình trình ban chỉ đạo quốc gia về phòng chống và kiểm soát nhiễm trùng Covid-19 thử nghiệm.
On November 25, Nguyen Thanh Phong, head of the Vietnam Food Administration under the Ministry of Health, said that since imported food may pose a high risk for the spread of Covid-19, the Ministry asked relevant agencies to conduct tests and report difficulties during the testing process to the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control.

Bộ cho biết đại dịch Covid-19 vẫn còn phức tạp trên thế giới. Một số quốc gia đã kiểm tra thực phẩm nhập khẩu và tìm thấy virus corona trên bao bì của thực phẩm đông lạnh. Mặc dù Việt Nam đã kiểm soát thành công đại dịch, nguy cơ nhiễm Covid-19 vẫn còn cao.
The Ministry said Covid-19 remains complicated in the world. Some countries have tested imported food and found coronavirus on the packaging of frozen food. While the country has successfully controlled the pandemic, the risk of the Covid-19 remains high.
Ông Phong lưu ý, mẫu từ bao bì thực phẩm nhập khẩu sẽ được thực hiện tại cửa khẩu. Hiện Bộ Y tế chưa yêu cầu nhà nhập khẩu trả phí kiểm nghiệm nên giá nhập khẩu sẽ không tăng.
Samples from imported food packaging will be taken at border gates, Phong noted, adding that the Ministry of Health has yet to ask importers to pay the testing fee, so the prices of imports will not rise.

Phó giáo sư Trần Đắc Phu, nguyên Tổng cục trưởng Tổng cục Y tế dự phòng, Bộ Y tế cho biết, việc xét nghiệm là cần thiết để ngăn chặn sự lây truyền của Covid-19 trong cộng đồng.
Associate Professor Tran Dac Phu, former head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, said the testing is necessary to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in the community.
