Vietnam discovers new coronavirus variant, a mix of UK and Indian strains
Theo quan chức y tế hàng đầu của Việt Nam cho biết, nước này đã phát hiện một biến thể mới của loại coronavirus mới là chủng lai giữa các thể đột biến xuất hiện ở Vương quốc Anh và Ấn Độ.
Vietnam has found a new variant of the novel coronavirus that is a combination of the UK and Indian mutants, according to the country’s top health official.
Vào hôm thứ Bảy, Bộ trưởng Bộ Y tế Nguyễn Thanh Long cho biết: Giải trình tự gen vừa phát hiện một đột biến coronavirus mang đặc điểm của chủng Anh và Ấn Độ, hai biến thể đã được tìm thấy ở Việt Nam.
Genome sequencing has just detected a coronavirus mutation that carries the characteristics of the UK and Indian strains, two variants already found in Vietnam, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said on Saturday.
Theo các chuyên gia, biến thể Ấn Độ được cho là có khả năng lây truyền cao hơn - đặc điểm của thể đột biến ở Anh - và làm giảm hiệu quả của các mũi ngừa COVID-19 - điển hình đột biến ở Nam Phi.
The Indian variant is believed to be more transmissible – the characteristic of the UK mutant – and to lessen the efficacy of COVID-19 jabs – typical of the South African mutation, according to experts.
Bộ trưởng Long cho biết thêm, chủng lai mới được phát hiện lan truyền nhanh và rộng rãi trong không khí, giải thích cho sự gia tăng nhanh chóng về số lượng ca nhiễm trong đợt thứ tư đang diễn ra.
The newly-discovered hybrid strain spreads fast and widely in the air, explaining a quick surge in the number of infections in the ongoing fourth wave, Minister Long added.
Ông nói: “Chúng tôi sẽ sớm công bố bộ gen của biến thể này với thế giới.
“We will announce the genome of the variant to the world soon,” he said.
Sự đột biến ở Anh lần đầu tiên được báo cáo ở Kent, đông nam nước Anh, vào tháng 9 năm ngoái.
The UK mutation was first reported in Kent, southeast England, in September last year.
Việt Nam phát hiện trường hợp biến chủng đầu tiên từ một bệnh nhân trở về từ Anh, vào ngày 2/1.
Vietnam detected the first case of the mutant, a patient returning from the UK, on January 2.
Chủng Nam Phi lần đầu tiên được phát hiện ở Nam Phi vào tháng 12 năm 2020. Việt Nam ghi nhận trường hợp biến thể đầu tiên được biết đến vào ngày 31 tháng 1.
The South African strain was first discovered in South Africa in December 2020. Vietnam recorded the first known case of the variant on January 31.
Bộ Y tế cho biết vào đầu tháng này, SARS-CoV-2, tên chính thức của loại coronavirus mới, đã đột biến hàng nghìn lần kể từ khi nó xuất hiện lần đầu tiên ở Trung Quốc vào tháng 12 năm 2019.
The SARS-CoV-2, the official name of the novel coronavirus, has mutated for thousands of times since it first emerged in China in December 2019, the health ministry said early this month.
