Write an essay (150 - 300 words) about this topic:
Some people think that if a country is already rich, further economic development will not result in its citizens being any happier. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Essay 1:
Some believe that developed countries do not need further development of the economy because it will not bring any happier to citizens. I absolutely disagree with this statement.
Developed countries do not mean there are no poor people there. There are the poor and the rich living together with the elder in any societies. Thus, the developed countries also are making their effort to boost their economic development. It helps to narrow the gap between rich people and poor people towards a more equal society. Poor people, as well as disabled people, will also be happier since they get more welfare.
Developing countries are trying to develop the economy. They may surpass the developed countries replacing the leading position in the world. Therefore, further economic development will help rich countries keep their influence on other countries as well as enhance their power in the world. As citizens of developed countries, people will get more benefits not only in their country but also in foreign countries. For example, American people can go to certain areas without Visa. It is obvious that citizens of rich countries will be happier if their country has further economic development.
In conclusion, people will be happier if their country has a development in the economy even in rich countries.
Essay 2:
It is true that developed countries give people more facilities than developing ones. That is the reason why many believe that they will be happier when working and studying in such costly areas. However, even if I had a chance to live in a more developed one, I would never have a sense of well-being because of the following reasons.
There is no doubt that economic growth always companies with the improvement of living standards. It means that those who live in developed societies will get higher-paid jobs, stay in more modern accommodations, and have flashy dinners in luxurious restaurants. Moreover, these people have better opportunities to approach new methods that help them get promotions in their workplaces.
However, working in a better working environment will also go with heavier pressure. For example, many people have to stay at work round a clock to find ways or outline competition strategies to compete with other rival companies. Such a situation may be responsible for mental problems for these busy people because they have no room for entertaining or releasing pressure. Additionally, it is difficult for them to communicate and teach their children regularly. Therefore, many kids will feel lonely and play with bad friends. To be worse, some of them may commit crimes because they cannot analyze which action is illegal.
In conclusion, although economic development is a wonderful prospect for improving the life quality of people, it cannot guarantee humans’ well-being according to the above explanations.
